Betting Preview: Atletico Madrid v Man City

The battle of contrasting styles continues as Atletico Madrid host Manchester City for the all-important second-leg of the Champions League quarterfinal tie. The Spanish outfit played as expected at the Etihad as the contest remained wide open before Wednesday’s showdown.

Atletico’s winning streak comes to an end

Although Diego Simeone didn’t make many changes to the side that played in Manchester, Atletico Madrid lost to relegation-threatened Real Mallorca as their seven games winning streak finally came to an end.

Against their will, Atletico had to take the initiative as they possessed more of the ball. But they didn’t translate it into chances before Mallorca took a shock lead through experienced striker Vedat Muriqi from the spot.

With both Barcelona and Sevilla winning their respective matches, Atleti sits three points behind them in the race for next season’s Champions League football. Real Betis is only a point behind Atletico in fifth place.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 20:00 on Wednesday 13th April 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport.

Manchester City was involved in a gigantic battle on Sunday

Before the key European night in Madrid, Manchester City host Liverpool in what was essentially the defining moment of the Premier League season. And it didn’t disappoint a bit.

The two sides gave further signs that they’re as good as it gets in modern football. A scintillating encounter ended in a draw with the guests coming from behind twice in the game.

The result favored City as they maintained their single point advantage over their opponent. It could’ve been more if Riyad Mahrez made use of a late chance, but it was a fair result at the end of a match between two memorable sides.

The first time the sides crossed paths

Last week’s game at the Etihad was the first match Atletico Madrid faced Manchester City. It was one-way traffic, but Atleti managed to limit City’s clear scoring chances. In the end, with his first touch, the substitute Phil Foden combined well with Kevin de Bruyne for the only goal of the match.

Atleti need goals unlike the first leg

Simeone’s big challenge would be searching for the goal that could at least push the tie to extra-time. They were in no hurry to create chances in the game at Manchester, but that’s out of the way for Wednesday’s clash. City will be challenged to a style that orchestrates to deconstruct opponents’ strengths.
