Inter hope to continue their title charge when they host Empoli on Friday. Simone Inzaghi’s side can climb back to the top of the Serie A table before AC Milan play two days later. Empoli is already safe from the relegation fight in their return to top-flight football.
Inter secured a fighting win against Udinese
Inter’s game against Udinese started similarly to their rescheduled match at Bologna. Ivan Perisic put them in front as they were in total control of the encounter with the hope of putting pressure on their derby rivals.
The difference was they managed to double their lead before the halftime break. Lautaro Martinez scored the rebound after missing a penalty-kick as Inter were ready for a rare comfortable win in 2022.
But they had to work for it after the break with Udinese showing resilience and a comeback spirit. Inter just about did enough to secure a narrow 2-1 win as their gap with AC Milan remained at two points.
When and where to watch?
The match kicks off at 18:45 on Friday 6th May 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport 2.
Empoli settled since the first weeks of the season on their return to Serie A. Although Benevento got relegated for their awful second half of the season performance the last term, Empoli looked to sail through amidst a single win so far in 2022.
And that win narrowed the title challengers to two teams. Napoli were comfortably 2-0 ahead against Empoli until the final ten minutes, but Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side turned the game upside down with their top-scorer Andrea Pinamonti’s brace.
Their awful second half of the season form returned after that with a 3-1 home defeat against Torino. Empoli finished the game with nine men as they conceded three goals in the final 12 minutes this time around.
Nine successive wins for Inter in this fixture
This will be the third time the sides meet this season. Inter knocked Empoli out of the Coppa Italia after their first Serie A game back in October. There was another red card for Empoli in the league fixture with Inter securing the win thanks to the unlikeliest of sources, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Federico Dimarco. The cup game needed an extra-time with Stefano Sensi netting the winner at the end of the first-half of the 30 minutes.

Empoli to hurt another title hopefuls’ dream
