Betting Preview: Empoli v Napoli

Newly-promoted side Empoli is the next challenge for Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli. The home side has little to play for as they have no danger of being dropped to the relegation fight. Napoli ruined their chance of keeping the pace with the two Milan clubs after the home draw against Roma.

Winless since December

This season’s relegation fight in Serie A has been one of the worst in recent memory. Although Empoli had a strong start to the season, the fact that they never have been in danger despite going without a win for over four months shows the lack of competition.

Currently, all the bottom three clubs are at 22 points with Cagliari and Sampdoria the closest to them in case any of those sides have a chance at securing their league status for next season.

Empoli climbed to eighth place when they beat Napoli in the first round, but that was their final three points in a game. 8 draws are recorded to their name in their last 16 games since beating Napoli.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 14:00 on Sunday 24th April 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport 3.

Napoli couldn’t hold for a point against Roma

After their defeat to the resurgent Fiorentina, Napoli dropped further points that left the title race more to the Milan clubs. They were very close to three precious points against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, but a late strike by Stephan El Sharrawy blocked them from maximum points.

After three successive victories, Napoli is now losing the ground once again while Inter finally regained their form in the final sprint of the season. Simone Inzaghi’s team is the front runner in the title race after the latest power shift.

And Milan still has a four points advantage over Napoli. But Spalletti will have no problems clinching a Champions League berth after Gennaro Gattuso failed to do so on the final matchday last season.

Empoli shocked Napoli in December

Empoli started the season with a win at Allianz against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus. And they also secured an improbable away win in Napoli back in December. Former Milan striker Patrick Cutrone secured the win twenty minutes from time. But Cutrone is scoreless since then just like Empoli still waiting for a win.

Empoli & Napoli Team News

Riccardo Marchizza, Federico Di Francesco and Emmanuel Ekong are unavailable from Empoli due to injuries.

Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended after picking up another yellow card against Roma on Monday. Juan Jesus, Stanislav Lobotka and Giovanni Di Lorenzo have been sidelined for a while now.

Napoli can’t afford another slip-up

With Inter and Milan facing tougher tests against Roma and Lazio in the weekend that sees Milan clubs facing teams from the capital Rome, Napoli could be presented with another chance to get back in the title race. As for Empoli, they will hope to not end the second half of the season without a win.
