Betting Preview: Rangers v Dortmund

Dortmund faces an uphill task as they target to reverse their heavy defeat when they travel to Ibrox on Thursday. Rangers failed to beat Dundee United days after scoring four at Signal Iduna Park. In contrast, Dortmund recovered quickly by scoring half a dozen against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Rangers eye a place in the quarterfinals

Despite only losing two games so far in the league, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers are trailing Celtic by three points in the Scottish Premiership after 27 rounds of games.

They only managed to win three of their seven games since the turn of the year. The most damaging result came when they lost the derby by 3-0 as it served as the big turn in the title race.

Now that they seem to pass the throne again to Celtic, going far in Europe could be one thing they get better at than Celtic. Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic lost to Bodo/Glimt at home in the first leg of their European Conference League tie.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 20:00 on Thursday 24th February 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport.

Reus show in the battle of Borussia

Marco Reus continues to thwart his former club Monchengladbach as he provided a five-star performance in Sunday’s crunch fixture. Reus netted twice and assisted three goals in an emphatic 6-0 victory for Marco Rose’s side.

The surprise came in injury-time when Reus passed on the opportunity of finishing the game with a hattrick of goals and assists by letting Emre Can take a penalty kick to round off the scoreline.

For Dortmund, the main story was to maintain their gap with Bayern and send an instant reaction to the last two horrible performances at home. They conceded nine goals in Signal Iduna to Bayer Leverkusen and Rangers before putting six past Adi Hutter’s Gladbach.

Fifth time of seeding

This is the fifth time the two teams have drawn alongside each other in European competitions since 1966. Rangers knocked out Dortmund on their way to reaching the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final back then. Dortmund’s only win against the Rangers came in their last meeting before this season was in a penalty shootout back in 1999-2000.

Rangers & Borussia Dortmund Team News

Ianis Hagi would be out of the game after his knee surgery.

Dortmund could continue to be without the services of Thomas Meunier and Erling Haaland. Gio Reyna and Dan-Axel Zagadou are certain to miss out after picking up new injuries in the weekend against Gladbach.

Dortmund will need to start bright

Rangers would be keen to keep calm and maintain a clean sheet in the first half an hour before sensing counterattack opportunities. With the away goals rule scrapped, Dortmund now only needs to win by two goals margin to take it to extra-time. It’s not a mean feat at all, but their attacking unit is capable of scoring goals.
