Betting Preview: Salernitana v Udinese

Salernitana hope to complete their unlikely survival with a win against midtable side Udinese on Sunday. The newly-promoted side spent much of the season in a guaranteed relegation, but an unbeaten streak gave them a lifeline. Udinese confirmed to finish the campaign in the bottom half of the standings.

Salernitana did the unthinkable

For a while, Salernitana is known for having the legendary winger Franck Ribery in their squad despite no hope of fighting for their lives in Serie A. Only in one matchday Salernitana spend out of the bottom three since the second week of the season.

It all started to change at Sampdoria last month. Before they won thanks to two goals in the first six minutes against the traditional side, Salernitana only had three wins in 30 games.

But they did show their fighting spirit in the game that had seven Salernitana players in the booking. They won three more games and drew three since then with Davide Nicola’s side getting out of the red zone.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 20:00 on Sunday 22th May 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport 1.

12th or 13th placed finish for Udinese?

Udinese could drop one position to 13th-placed on the final day if Bologna recorded a better result than them in their trip to Genoa. They lost to another relegation-threatened side Venezia at home last weekend.

Gabriele Cioffi’s side had a good time last month with sensational displays away at Fiorentina as they played a pinnacle of an attack-minded performance. They scored four against the Violas to crush their European dreams in a rescheduled fixture.

Udinese also scored 5 and 4 against Cagliari and Empoli, respectively. Only seven Serie A clubs scored more goals than Udinese this season. But they only spend one matchday inside the European places.

Another meeting in exactly a month’s time

The first game between the sides only took place last month as it had to be rescheduled. Simone Verdi’s 93rd-minute strike clinched a vital win for Salernitana in their push to avoid the drop. It was their first win over Udinese since 1950.

Salernitana & Udinese Team News

Lys Mousset and Luca Ranieri are not supposed to make it for the final game of the season.

Former Watford attacker Isaac Success and Antonio Santurro are on the sidelines from Udinese.

Salernitana has a tied record in head-to-head with Cagliari

Serie A will give priority to head-to-head records for tied points in deciding the league position. But Salernitana and Cagliari drew both of their games 1-1 as they will be decided with the traditional criteria if they end up finishing on the same points. Salernitana currently sits outside the bottom three thanks to their solitary point advantage. A win here would secure Salernitana’s survival which would’ve been unthinkable a couple of months ago.
